A BRIGHT and colourful display is catching the eye of commuters travelling from Goostrey Railway Station.

A display about rainbows, created by pupils of Goostrey Community Primary School as part of their annual art exhibition, has been installed in the waiting room of the station’s Crewe platform.

The display has attracted attention of visitors and villagers, and was even featured on the Art Trail, which was part of Goosfest, the annual village festival at the end of October.

The project was spearheaded by teacher Becky Cowell, who said she was delighted with the reaction.

The waiting room is lit at night so passengers can enjoy the display when the sun goes down.

Peter Godfrey, chair of the parish council and vice-chair of Friends of Goostrey Station (FOGS), said: “It is good to see local children involved in improving our local railway station. This is the fourth art exhibition and we thank all who were involved.”

Since its formation in June 2012, FOGS has held monthly action days at which volunteers from the village undertake work at the station such as weeding or sweeping and they also hope to restore the station building.

As well as giving the station a makeover, FOGS is collecting and preserving memories, documents, postcards and photographs relating to Goostrey Railway Station.

The group would like to hear from anyone who has a relative who worked at Goostrey Station or the adjacent coal yard.
