THE National Blood Service visited Sir John Deane’s College to talk to students about the importance of giving blood and to encourage them to join the donor register.

To sign up to the blood donor register you need to be 16 years old or over, although you can only donate once you are 17.

Students were also given information about organ donation when the service visited.

“We had a really good response from students and we will be contacting them to let them know about their nearest donation sessions,” said Lyn Babington from the National Blood Service.

“We were talking to students about the importance of being a blood donor and the benefits it can have. From one donor you can potentially save the lives of three people or seven babies.”
