A NEW log cabin has been unveiled at a Knutsford primary school ready for pupils to get creative.

St Vincents Primary School welcomed parents to the school on Friday, November 8 to show off the new indoor area.

Roisin Moores, head teacher at the school, said one of the main purposes of the cabin will be so pupils can have a large space to create art projects.

“The whole idea came about as we are a school that does not have enough space and don’t have the ability to expand the building,” she said.

“We looked at creating some extra space, and one of PTA members came up with the idea of log cabin when she was looking for something for her own garden.

“We did some research and found out we could put a log cabin in and we spoke to the Diocese.

“The first purpose is for art activities as we do a lot of art work, and whenever the children are involved in a big project there is nowhere to put it.

“But now they will be able to do the art work and it can remain in situ without it having to be tidied away.

“The second use will be as an outdoor learning environment and the final use is that it’s an area for reflection and for when we hold prayer groups.”

The school held a competition in the summer to name the cabin, and brother and sister Michael and Rosie Friscuolo came up with L.O.D.G.E – which stands for Learning, Observing, Drawing, Growing and Educating.

The PTA raised £25,000 of the £40,000 overall cost, and Mrs Moores hailed the group’s impact at the school.

“Our PTA is one of the most hard- working and successful in the local authority,” she said.

“We tend to raise £20,000 a year, and we’ve got 120 families and they are raising that amount of money.

“We do a lot that is community-driven, and when we do our annual party in the park that attracts a lot of people.”
