PRESIDENT Judy Pardoe congratulated and thanked members for their Autumn Fest, held in celebration of the WI centenary, which had been a great success in every way.

Villagers had attended in force, and the WI had also been delighted to welcome both several past presidents who had travelled back to the village especially for the occasion, and also the current chairman of the Cheshire Federation of WIs, Frances Woollam.

The celebratory book of Acton Bridge recipes produced for the centenary sold out, and a second printing is being organised. Anyone wanting a copy is asked to contact 01606 854144.

Then members gathered round to look forward to the festive season, as one of their talented members, Selina Rooney, demonstrated how to make individual Christmas cakes in a hurry, using baked bean tins for miniature cake tins.

Several members tried their hands, and Santas, pixies, polar bears and Christmas baubles were taken home.

The meeting ended with tea and a slice of a beautiful WI centenary celebration cake provided by Lynn Fowler, one of the member’s daughters. The next meeting is on Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm.
