WINSFORD U3A continues to reach out to retired people in mid Cheshire with 37 new members joining in the last month.

The new cycling group meets once a fortnight, Whitegate Way being a favourite location. Some are trying their hand at creative writing having been persuaded that anyone can play with words without being a best-selling author. Bridge is now under way with every effort being made to integrate new people with some knowledge of the game.

Members visiting the Catalyst Centre in Widnes were captivated by the excellent talk and demonstration of smart materials and their uses in everyday life. A three-hour first aid course is being offered by St John Ambulance to help members deal with potential emergencies – very important when looking after children or the elderly. A day trip to Thirsk and Nunnington Hall in early September was enjoyed by all, and an evening of entertainment to hear Matt Munro Jnr at the Lyceum Theatre has proved to be very popular. On October 13 at 2pm in Winsford Library Mike Lyne from the Institute of Advanced Motorists will give a talk on the Implications of Driving for Older People.

The next welcome morning in on October 23 at 11am in the library café. Anyone who is interested please come along or pick up a leaflet from the library – also visit u3asites.org.uk/winsford
