Northwich and District Probus Club by William Harris

At this month’s Northwich and District Probus Club meeting, Val Lythgo spoke about Forever Angels, a baby home in Tanzania, which gives a home to orphaned and abandoned infants. Tanzania is a country of extreme beauty, Lake Victoria, the Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar etcetera, and of extreme poverty. 60% of the population has to survive on less than £1 per day. Hospitals and schools are both dire. One in ten of the population is HIV/Aids positive. Corruption is rampant. There are many orphans because so many mothers die in childbirth. Val’s daughter Amy and husband founded the Charity after a visit to Tanzania when they resolved to do something about the orphan problem. They also started the Maisha (life) Matters project which gives support to impoverished families to help them to be self-sustaining.

The outdoor bowling season is now finished for this year, but the indoor season starts on September 29 with a match against Weaver Probus at Owley Wood.

Details of the Manchester Ship Canal Trip on October 1 were announced. Twenty one members are looking forward to an interesting day out.
