Darnhall & Wettenhall WI by Marjorie Sherry

President Jean Hitchen opened this month’s meeting and began with the singing of Jerusalem. Voluntary County Organiser Mary Davenport was welcomed together with other visitors. Apologies were taken and get well wishes were sent to sick members.

The darts players are now practising for the group Darts Match which will take place at Bunbury later in the month. Names were taken for the annual Hot Pot in October. Members were asked to think seriously about joining the committee. The annual bingo will take place on November 10, and will have a Christmas theme. Anyone is welcome to come along.

The speaker for the evening was Judy Popley who talked about her life at Granada TV. Judy started working at Granada Studios in Manchester as a teenager and worked her way up the ladder from the office to outside broadcasting. She met many interesting people and showed slides of some of the stars we had long forgotten and some who still appear today.

As it is the WI’s 95th birthday year, there was a Produce and Handicraft Show. The overall winner of the show was Mrs Susan Langley.

Tea and cakes followed.
