THE U3A recent meeting was attended by more than 90 members.

They had come to listen to Janet Bradshaw tell tales of nine lives. Janet has been a popular speaker at past meetings and did not disappoint on this occasion. She painted a picture of life in the various settlements at Tatton through the ages. What makes her talks most entertaining are the costume changes which are appropriate to the era, that she effects as she is talking.

They were taken from the Saxon settlement through to the Land girls of the last war via the Tudors and Victorians. She told of the lives people led, their work, their clothing and food. She recounted tales of happenings on the estate such as poaching and royal visits. These are all scenarios designed to teach history to schoolchildren in an entertaining and engaging way when they visit Tatton Park. It was a most enjoyable talk.

As the annual meeting approaches they are looking for members to stand for the committee to replace those standing down at the end of their three years in post. Anyone willing to stand needs two supporters and should let present committee members know.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 16, with guest speaker Dr Zsigismond who will talk about the Hungarian Revolution.
