Plumley Women's Institute by Christine Barwell

President, Virginia Williamson welcomed members to this month’s meeting of Plumley WI. Since the last meeting some members had been to the AGM at the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Moreover, members did well at this year's Cheshire Show with a pleasing number of prizes and commendations. Members are also looking forward to the opening of an exhibition: Inspiring Women for 100 Years which opens at the Knutsford Heritage Centre on August 4.

Forthcoming events include a coffee morning on July 24 and a Garden Party on August 19, with trips planned to attend Arley Hall on August 6 and The Harrogate WI Show on September 5.

This month's speaker was Judy Fairless, a contemporary quilter. She gave a fascinating talk about her travels along the Silk Route and how it has provided a wealth of inspiration for her modern designs. Members enjoyed looking at the lovely examples of her work and it was interesting to learn about the different techniques she used.

This month's competition was won by Cybil Crossman, with Christine England as runner-up. The Bloom competition was won by Christine England, with June Hall in second place.

The next meeting will be on Monday, September 7 where Stephen Dean will be speaking about the Staffordshire Hoard. The competition will be: An unusual find. New members and guests are always welcome and more information can be found on Twitter @wi_plumley.
