COMBERBACH WI President, Kath Dunn, welcomed 50 members and two guests to their July meeting and gave a short but moving eulogy to Delyse Roodhouse, one of their long standing members and a past secretary who died in June after a short illness. Her talent, kindness and generosity of spirit will never be forgotten.

Kath thanked everyone who had supported the Comberbach Fair cake stall in June. She also reported on the remarkable Centenary Annual Council Meeting held at the Albert Hall with The Queen, The Princess Royal and The Countess of Wessex in attendance. It had been a truly inspirational and celebratory day.

Members were looking forward to a tour of Sainsbury’s and attending the centenary event at Gawsworth Hall with entertainment by members of Cheshire’s WIs.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Neil Smith, a virtuoso guitar player who enthralled members with tales of his fascinating life story and his sublime guitar playing.

They were treated to folk, jazz, Spanish and classical pieces.

The next meeting will be on August 3, at 7.30pm when Judith Hibbert will entertain with the WI’s centenary year.

Meetings are at Comberbach Memorial Hall, visitors and new members always welcome.
