This month’s meeting of the Hartford WI was well attended. Elva Parkes spoke on the Cheshire Show.
Elva was very proud of students who entered and said the standard was very high again this year.
Hartford received one second and two third awards for their artwork together with a highly recommended in the photography section.
A display of the entries was on show and included some lovely bead work.
Margaret Wright, delegate at the Centenary Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall, gave a talk on her day which was attended by HM The Queen, HRH the Princess Royal and HRH the Countess of Wessex and a detailed account of the resolution and speakers attending.
Jean Harding, vice chair of CFWI and ACWW representative, gave a very interesting talk about funding women in the developing world.
This year’s project is to provide 12 villages in Cameroon with standpipes for fresh water.
The speaker for the evening was Val Miller on tails and tiaras. Val described her time as photographer’s assistant to her husband. She told of the many varied themed weddings and the amusing things that happened; from a James Bond wedding to guests wearing luminous socks.
Pam Lamb presented the 2015 Literary Award to Cicely Peover.
