CROSSTOWN WI by Barbara Dawson
The meeting was opened by President May Lawson and attended by 33 members and two visitors, Ann Thompson and Val Saunders. The speaker Mrs Nora Warmsley gave a very entertaining talk about her and her husband’s travels around America in a caravan on her retirement from working for the Sultan of Brunei. The caravan was a retirement gift from the Sultan and his family. They encountered many exciting incidents on their travels including travelling in convoy with some truckers.
The meeting continued with invitations to enter a Scrabble tournament and a Domino competition.
Member June Sherlock gave a short report on her trip to London to the Royal Garden party as representative for our WI. June gave a rundown of Crosstown's entries to the Cheshire Show and gave a vote of thanks to the volunteer helpers for the show. This was followed by a short talk by Cynthia Whitney on her trip to London also but for the AGM as our representative.
There is an upcoming trip to Chester and future outings include the group meeting in October and a four day trip to Bruges.
The September meeting will celebrate 95 yrs of the Cheshire WIs and the centenary of the WI with a buffet lunch
The results of the competition for holiday mementos were: 1. Pauline Wood; 2. Kate Greenway; 3. Sheila Hall. The meeting then closed after the drawing of a raffle .
