Bostock and District WI by Tricia Goodier

Hilary Jones spoke of her day out at the centenary garden party at Buckingham Palace on, it was insightful and interesting and she had a most memorable day. Secretary, Eva Williamson spoke about the NFWI 2015 centenary Annual General Meeting on June 04, attended by Her Majesty The Queen, HRH The Princess Royal and Sophie, Countess of Wessex at The Royal Albert Hall. It was an amazing event and all who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There is a visit planned to Gawsworth Hall on July 08. The coffee morning will be held again at the Memorial Court on Tuesday, July 14 from 10:30am and the walk will be on July 15, meeting at the Bull’s Head at 1:30pm.

Wendy introduced guest speaker, Judith Townsend whose talk was entitled ‘Bin Baby’. Judith was born in China in March 1949. Girl babies were not so welcome and many were left to die, especially as only one child was allowed per family. Judith was thrown into a rubbish heap. Happily she was discovered and was looked after by a local Matron. At age eight, Judith suffered a burst appendix and around this time she saw a future for herself in nursing. She was sent on to a Christian based mission until she was age 15.

Judith told members that, despite not feeling loved as a child and not knowing who her parents were, she now feels a secure and peaceful person. She has been married for 40 years, has two daughters and grandchildren. She feels blessed and is sure someone is looking after her.

A vote of thanks was given for an emotive, heartwarming journey through Judith’s life.

The next meeting is July 28. New members and visitors welcome. Call secretary Eva Williamson 01606 75573 for further details.
