Hartford WI by Judie Mitchell

The President, Pam Lamb opened this month’s meeting, which was ‘Members’ Evening’ and was attended by 58 members, 7 visitors and 2 new members

Mary Atkins represented the WI at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. She gave a brief talk on her day which had been absolutely fabulous. She met a number of the Royal family and said how well organised the whole day had been.

Elva Parkes started by reading a very informative and interesting resume of how and when the WI was formed. The first WI opened in Ontario, Canada in 1895 and the first one in Britain opened in 1915.

Elva then introduced the entertainment for the evening, ‘Jeepers Jazz’; a double bass player, a guitarist and a singer. They played and sang a number of popular melodies. Halfway through the evening, Elva and her team served home-made cakes and tea. The evening recommenced with the trio handing out song sheets so all members could join in.

Pam thanked Elva and her team for making the night such a memorable and enjoyable occasion.
