Winsford U3A

The 2015 AGM of Winsford U3A took place on Tuesday, May 12 in St Andrew's Methodist church hall and was well attended. Jenny Carley, from the N/W regional committee gave an enlightening talk on the structure of the U3A movement with special emphasis on the third age being a time of fulfilment for retired people who need a life outside of looking after grandchildren. A full committee was elected, evenly balanced with five men and five women. The chair spoke about the many changes over the past twelve months with new groups being formed and changing structures coming into operation as the movement constantly adapts to changing circumstances. The organisation has many talented people willing to share their knowledge and skills spread across twenty eight interest groups. As a result of community involvement over the past year with the WWI exhibition, the Salt Fair, the Regatta and the Incredible Edibles project, Winsford U3A was proud to be one of three nominations shortlisted for the Mayor's organisation of the year award. At the presentation evening the town clerk gave an excellent resume of U3A's services to the community at large. An outing to Ormskirk Market and Southport Pier is planned for June and the annual members' picnic lunch will take place in July. The next Welcome Morning is on Friday May 22, 11am in Winsford library. For more information visit the library or the Winsford U3A website.
