THE May meeting at Whitegate WI began with a discussion on the latest WI resolution Failing to Care – Assessment of Need in Long Term Care. The resolution was carried.

Member, Morven gave an informative talk from a personal perspective, on managing coeliac disease.

She brought a range of gluten free supermarket products which are now much more readily available than a few years ago.

The bread, available on prescription, was very tasty and the ready made pastry was an excellent replacement for homemade, which is difficult to handle as it lacks the gluten that usually holds pastry together.

She also brought home-baked items to taste that were made with gluten free flour.

Julie Ellis, from the Parish Council outlined details of the proposed community cafe and shop at the old station buildings on the Whitegate Way.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the project for a trial this summer.

She also talked about the two new defibrillators to be located in the village, and CPR training events which will be held soon.

Members recently enjoyed trips to Abbeywood Gardens and the theatre in Crewe to see the Sound of Music.

A stunning banner designed and made by members to celebrate 75 years of the CFWIs has been completed.

The contemporary design has the names of all the current members embroidered on fabric beech tree leaves representing the beech trees around the recreation room where their meetings are held.

The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 3, with a talk on the history of soap making and a demo of bath bomb, bubble bath and soap making.

Visitors and new members always welcome.
