Comberbach WI by Rosie Rowe

President, Kath Dunn, welcomed 53 members, including one new member to the recent meeting at Comberbach WI. She thanked everyone who had contributed to the centenary bunting which was on display for the first time.

Guest speakers, Audrey and Harry Watson, gave a highly entertaining talk on their lives spent as driving instructors in Chester. Their tales were warm hearted, comical and often very moving as they recounted the trials and tribulations of teaching people to drive. The vote of thanks was given by Anne Saville.

Kath congratulated the darts teams who had played in the group competition. One of the teams ended the evening as runners up in one of the leagues. Members who had provided refreshments at the final of the county quiz competition which won by Frodsham WI were thanked.

Members had joined in with Comberbach WI’s 65th birthday celebration for an enjoyable afternoon tea at Dunham Forest Golf Club in Altrincham. Many members will be attending the Weaver Vale WI Choir’s centenary concert on April 24, as well as the centenary celebrations at Gawsworth Hall on July 8.

The evening ended with birthday cake to mark Comberbach WI’s 65th birthday and one lucky member was picked from the draw to attend the centenary garden party at Buckingham Palace.

The next meeting will be on May 11 at 7.30pm at Comberbach Village Hall when the 2015 resolutions will be debated. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
