THE April meeting of Crowton WI started with the sad news Muriel Atherton and Eileen Haddock, both long standing and valued members had recently passed away. Jane Parry spoke about each lady and a minute's silence was held in their memory.

Members were given information about forthcoming events, including a centenary celebration concert in Winsford on April 24, by the Weaver Valley WI choir, details of a special centennial fair in Harrogate in September and the CFWI celebration day in Gawsworth on July 8.

Kathy congratulated the darts team who reached the semi-final in the county competition. The luncheon club is heading to the Travellers Rest in Frodsham April 20, and there is a trip to the Tweed Mill on May 19.

The speaker for the evening was Christine Stockton who gave a talk entitled The Story of Flamenco.

Christine gave a brief history about the origins of flamenco as far back as the eighth century. It developed over the years, influenced by a mix of different cultures.

Christine played examples of songs and dance music and entertained members with a demonstration of dancing.

She has a real passion for flamenco and her enthusiasm for the subject made her talk very interesting and entertaining.

The next meeting is on May 5, in Crowton Village Hall, there is no speaker as we will be discussing the 2015 resolutions and enjoying a longer social hour.
