THE Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal have been busy supporting young people from the area recently.

On Sunday, March 29, students from St Nicholas Catholic High School, sponsored by the club, took part in the rotary international regional finals of the intermediate age Youth Speaks competition.

It is a competition where three young people are tested on their public speaking skills that help build self-confidence as well as developing important life skills.

Gordon Atkinson, vice president, said that although the team did not win, they gave a compelling talk and the team and school can be proud of their achievement.

The team had already won earlier competitions and were competing against teams from the whole of the north west region.

The club also sponsored class four from Witton Church Walk primary school to attend an Urban Kids Go Outdoors adventure day at Petty Pool outdoor centre.

The staff there are very experienced at helping children to overcome their fears and to stretch themselves to try new activities and to support each other.

They came away from the day tired but with a great sense of achievement.

The club have organised a number of these days and always receive positive feedback from the pupils and school staff.

Members also attend to provide additional help and support and equally enjoy the day.

Meetings are every Wednesday at 7.30pm, normally at the Blue Cap, Sandiway.
