ANNETTE and John Christophers from the Albrighton Pottery were guest speakers at the recent meeting of Winsford Midweek Ladies club.

They brought along a selection of their beautiful pottery for members to see and purchase and gave a fascinating talk on the history of pottery through the ages.

Clay was first discovered in rivers and could be formed into decorative and useful items.

Stoke-on-Trent became a major area for large scale industry production of earthenware and china in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Halfway through the evening members were given a small piece of clay which they were encouraged to make into a disc and decorate.

As John continued the story of pottery, Annette, magically, moulded the discs together to form a large terracotta bowl.

It was taken back to their pottery to be fired and will be on display at the next meeting.

Annette and John have been making pots for over 50 years.

These days they mostly travel around giving light hearted, informative talks to groups to impart the delights of their craft.

Members agreed it was a very enjoyable evening.

The next meeting on April 15, is the AGM and will be followed by an illustrated talk on the buildings of Winsford by Carole Walker.
