THE next meeting will be held at Mid Cheshire College on this Friday, March 27 at 8pm.
The speaker will be Geoff Scargill whose subject will be Edward Watkin – The last laugh of a Railway King. Geoff will tell the story of a forgotten Victorian.
He started his career in Northwich and was one of the railway kings who created Britain’s railways.
He was a trustee for the Weaver Navigation company, helped create Canada, planned a direct line between Manchester and Paris, started to dig the Channel tunnel and laid the foundations of Wembley.
He also caused an art sensation in America. How did he get forgotten?
