FORTY ramblers joined the luxurious new coach for the trip to Castleton at the heart of the Peak District recently. The A party, led by Rose Chisholm, alighted first at Sparrowpit from where they made their way to Rushup Edge and along the Great Ridge with a final sting up Win Hill to complete 14 miles with 2500ft of ascent.

Alan Milligan took the B party to Hope and on to Lose Hill and the Great Ridge descending over Windy Knoll and down Dirtlow Rake after 11 miles with 1900ft of ascent.

Steve Thomas took the C group up Cavedale and on to Mam Tor and the Great Ridge before returning via Hope after nine miles with 1500ft of climbing.

David Eyes took the D group beneath Lose Hill to Aston and returned along Peakshole Water to Castleton, completing six and a half miles with very little climbing. Despite forecasts of rain, it remained dry but was cold and windy.

Back in Castleton there were many cafes and pubs serving welcome refreshments. Members had a great day out.

The next trip will be to Beaumaris, North Wales on Sunday, March 29. For further details and to book a seat, please phone Barbara Ward 01565 651765.
