THE March meeting at the Wych Centre was well attended by members and visitors.

In addition to the usual meetings, they also meet one Sunday a month for a get together to knit, sew, make different crafts as well as a chance to have lunch and a chat.

The quiz team are in the county quiz final at Comberbach on April 10. They will be joining with Middlewich U3A for the Civil War weekend on May 24/25 to provide tea and cakes at the Civic Hall.

Treasurer, Jane Peet, will be the representative at the Buckingham Palace garden party in June given by the Duchess of Cornwall.

Guest speaker for the evening was Mike Heaton of Heaton House Farm Venue.

Mike is the sixth generation of his family to run the farm and he manages the spectacular wedding/events/musical festival venue.

When the venture started the farm was run as a large dairy and pig farm.

A couple from London had been there for a music festival and asked him if they could have the cow barn for their wedding reception, minus the cows. Since then the business has grown and now has a licence for weddings and corporate events as well as music festivals.

He regaled members with stories of disasters on wedding days including bad weather when roofs were blown off buildings and flooded carpets in the wedding room.

He has put a lot of time and effort into converting old buildings back to their original appearance on the outside with modernisation inside to cater for weddings of up to 600 guests.

Mike’s stories were told with a sense of humour and he made light of all the hard work that he, his wife, family and staff had done as well as still running a dairy farm.

There is a restaurant there and everyone is welcome for a meal or just coffee and a tour round.
