THIRTY-FOUR members of Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers joined the coach trip to Garstang on March 1. The A group, led by Ray Brown, started its walk at Brock, six miles before Garstang.

They walked up the River Brock and onto Beacon Fell and back via Bleasdale and Calder Vale to complete a linear walk of 14 miles with 1600ft of climbing.

The other groups all started their walks in Garstang. The D group was led by Ken McKenzie.

They walked to Calder Vale and back on different paths to complete six and a half miles with around 650ft of ascent.

The C group, led by Steve Thomas, headed north to Nicky Nook and then around the reservoirs and back across fields to Garstang after 10 miles with 1200ft of climbing.

Grahame Reid took his B group to Calder Vale then north to Grizedale Bridge and Nicky Nook and then back to Garstang completing 11 miles with 1,700ft of climbing.

Despite a forecast of rain, it remained dry and cloudy for most of the day, only starting to snow as the trip finished in the pub.
