GUEST speakers for the recent meeting of the Winsford Ladies Midweek Club, were Jenny Sadler, vice-chairman and Carole Buckingham, membership secretary of Parkinson’s UK, the club’s adopted charity for 2015.

Looks can be deceptive and it was not apparent that either of them suffered from Parkinson’s. It is a progressive neurological condition and everyone’s experience is different.

Carole has always loved dancing and, despite the onset of Parkinson’s, she continues to do so whenever possible. Her muscles may fail to respond but she has fun and the exercise is therapeutic.

Jenny enjoys being part of a choir which is good exercise for the lungs and facial muscles. It’s important to rest prior to embarking on any activity and rest again after, in order to live as normal a life as possible.

Jenny and Carole are part of the Crewe and District Parkinson’s UK branch, who arrange meetings and social events. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved.

Anyone wanting more information contact the Parkinson’s UK helpline on 0808 800 0303.

We will be helping to raise funds for this important cause through various events and activities.

The next meeting is on March 18, and the subject will be the history of pottery.
