Bulter, Donald Lodge was guest speaker at the recent meeting at Winsford Ladies Midweek club. He gave a fascinating talk bout his life as a butler.

Donald was probably always destined to spend his life looking after people. From an early age he helped around the home. He was part of a large household with five children and it was not unusual for other folk to move in to share their home on a temporary basis.

He worked in a bakery when he was 12 years old and served an apprenticeship at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool. From there he moved to another hotel in Warrington where he became head waiter.

By a quirk of fate he travelled to Canada where he took up the post of `An English butler’ in a village outside Toronto. From this point on, his career led him into the world of the rich and famous.

Through his duties he met many dignitaries including the visiting Archbishop of Canterbury and stars like Sophie Lauren and her husband. He eventually returned to England and took up a post working for the aristocracy and found himself again mixing with the rich and famous.

It was evident from the memorabilia that Donald had brought with him, that throughout his long career he was obviously well regarded by those he who he worked for.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, February 18 when there will be a speaker from the Parkinson’s Charity. For more information please call 01606 592724 or 01606 594970.
