President, Kathy Baldwin welcomed members to the January meeting of Crowton WI. She wished everyone a Happy New Year and then ran through the business part of the evening. Details were given of the New Year lunch on January 20, at Abbeywood; information about future outings; details of the AGM at Winsford and plans for celebrating the NFWI centenary and Cheshire’s 95th birthday. Kathy also gave details about the darts team, games evenings and weekly rambles.

The speaker for the evening was Elizabeth Allen who gave a very interesting talk about ‘Skin Camouflage.’ Elizabeth is a member of BASC, The British Association of Skin Camouflage. She spoke about the history of plastic surgery and how procedures were developed to help people injured in the First World War. A famous pioneer of skin camouflage was Joyce Allsworth, who instigated a service for the Red Cross. Elizabeth talked about celebrity worship, the use of photoshopping and how we live in an age where everyone is image conscious. She told of helping people with disfigurements, burn injuries and the removal of tattoos. Everyone enjoyed the talk and found it very interesting.

The next meeting is on February 3, at 7.30pm in Crowton Village Hall. The speaker is Eric Jennings with a talk entitled 'On The Fiddle'. Visitors and potential new members are always welcome.
