President Joy Hoad welcomed members and visitors to the first meeting of the new year. Details were given of the interesting programme of speakers and activities for the year.

The entertainer for the evening was Carol Wilson from Winsford, known as 'Cockney Carol'. Bedecked in a self-made black jacket and skirt embellished with pearl buttons, she set the scene for her repertoire of Cockney songs. These included 'Underneath the Arches', 'Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner' and many more, with recorded accompaniment.

Carol displayed her ukulele, explaining that she had always shown an interest in the instrument. She taught herself to play to be able to accompany her singing. She has started a group of 25 like-minded people who are interested and eager to learn to play the ukulele. Carol was thanked for a most entertaining evening by Jackie Walker.

Refreshments were provided, there was also a generous raffle.

The next meeting will be held at Lach Dennis Village Hall on Monday, February 9, at 7.30pm when Jackie Walker will lead a Beadcraft Evening.
