THERE was a good attendance at the first meeting of the New Year. Group president, Jenny Friar, welcomed members and reminded them that this year the WI is celebrating its 100th anniversary and that nationally there would be several events.

Volunteers were requested to help in various roles. One set date is a fundraising bingo and tea afternoon on March 19, for which tickets will be on sale next month.

Members will also be participating in the village gala in June. There is a lunch bunch meal this month and also a local walk has been organised.

The first speaker of the year was Paul Williams of Oak House Foods who talked about the wide range of ready meals offered by his company which could be delivered to the door.

Varied menus, both big and small portions, were on offer and it was possible to order one week’s meals at a time to be stored in the freezer and used as necessary.

Everyone received a thick catalogue to peruse at home. Paul also brought éclairs and cheesecake for members to sample.

The next meeting will be on February 12 when Professor Ian Morrison will be talking about the Jodrell Bank Telescope. For more information, please ring 01606 888446.
