Richard Chrimes from Weaver Vale Garden Centre joined members of Weaverham Garden Group to talk about Pots for Winter Colour. He gave a brief history of his involvement in gardening, starting out as an apprentice with Vale Royal Council eventually becoming a propagator and grower.

His first job was watering thousands of pots and trays but before he was allowed near the watering can, he had to tap the sides of the pots with a stick and correctly estimate their need for water which took him weeks.

Richard gave useful tips for potting up and demonstrated how to pot up bulbs and plants in delightful combinations, sowing seeds of various sizes and taking cuttings.

Richard brought bags of cutting materials to be taken home and shared and discussed ideas with members. It was a lovely evening.

The first meeting of 2015 is on Tuesday, January 27, at Weaverham Primary Academy from 7.30pm with speaker Mike Cook on the subject of Gardening Ideas with Children.
