At the October meeting of Northwich U3A, members held their Annual General Meeting.

The 2013 Minutes and Accounts were approved by the members present, and Jacquie Walker and Eric Walker resigned at the end of their three years of office.

Janice Jackson and Barbara Burston were re-elected. Brenda Makepeace and Gaynor Lennon will join the committee this year. Ernie Styles gave notice of his intention to step down as Treasurer in 2015, a post he has held for sixteen years. It is imperative that a member comes forward before next October to take over this role, because the Club cannot continue without a treasurer. All the details of the AGM will be published on the Northwich U3A website.

Following the business side of the meeting, members were then entertained by Jon Baddely. Jon, a Lancashire lad, has been a member of the George Formby appreciation Society for more than thirty years. He had brought along his uke, and during his talk about the life of George Formby, sang some of George’s most famous songs.

Money was raised for St Luke’s Hospice through the sale of chutneys and preserves, and a few tickets remain for the Christmas lunch which replaces the December meeting.

A new programme of speakers will be available at the next meeting on Wednesday, November 19, when Peter Braun will talk about Dunham Massey and Powerful Politics.
