Kathy Niblet was the guest speaker at the October meeting of the English Speaking Union.
Kathy’s subject was “Moorcroft a Living Art Pottery since 1897”. She took members through the history of Moorcroft, accompanied by many slides of some of the beautiful pottery.
Moorcroft have a reputation as being good employers, even from the early 1900s. The firm was given a Royal Warrant in 1928, which was renewed in 1946. They were taken over in 1986 and in 1999 stopped all the patterns and began with new designs in 2000.
Members were told that some of the very rare pieces are now attracting huge sums of money, and that a very fine collection of Moorcroft can be seen at the Stoke-on-Trent museum.
The next meeting is on November 11, and the speaker, Major Pickering, will talk about “The Cheshire Regiment in the Great War”. Visitors are very welcome to join in. Please ring 01606 76534 for further information.
