Middle-Wyches WI celebrated their 2nd birthday party in October inviting guests from neighbouring Institutes to a hot-pot supper prepared by members.

County Chairman, Frances Woollam was on hand to cut the birthday cake, made by Elaine Mills and decorated in traditional white and green. Following the hot-pot, there was a talk by Hannah Sadler from Snugbury’s Ice Cream. She spoke of the family firm’s beginnings in her mother’s kitchen to the present day business supplying many north west National Trust properties.

They carry 35-40 varieties and try to produce all ingredients in house. Honeycomb is the most popular flavour. They can produce 3 tons at a time and make various amounts in different flavours.

They are now well known for the straw structures which started appearing after a trip to the USA. Hannah’s father works with an engineer neighbour who has helped to create the Millennium Wheel and this year’s walking, talking Dalek. It’s worth a trip just to see what’s in the field never mind the damson and sloe gin ice cream!

After tasting some of Hannah’s samples, everyone enjoyed a piece of cake and a drink. A rousing rendition of Jerusalem sent all home with a smile on their faces.

The November meeting is the AGM, the speaker is Louise Jenkins from Hotter Shoes. New members and visitors are always welcome, please call Susan leicester on 01606 837532 or email sewingsusiel@hotmail.co.uk for details
