PRESIDENT Ruth Cairns introduced Bernice Walmsley, a local author, who had come to speak to us about ‘Getting Published and British Citizenship’.

Bernice is a prolific author who has had 24 books published since she started writing.

Her subjects are far ranging, covering many areas of life and include many ‘Teach Yourself’ books such as ‘Teach yourself Decluttering’, ‘Teach yourself Good Study Skills’ and ‘Teach yourself life at 50 – For Women’.

There are also self-help books on how to ‘Improve your verbal reasoning’ and ‘Managing Yourself’.

Bernice has also written ‘Stress-free potty-training’ and a book on how to ‘Get a Great Career’, to name just a few. There really is something for everyone.

Bernice is also the author of ‘Pass the British Citizenship Test’ – this book covers the whole process from Naturalization as a British Citizen to applying for indefinite leave to stay in the country.

We were all given a test paper to fill in to ‘apply’ for British Citizenship! Oh dear, not as easy as you may think.

A few members got full marks – unfortunately, one needs to get 75 per cent answers correct – it’s a good job this wasn’t for real.

One of Bernice’s quotes was that ‘talent is far more common than discipline’ – it is quite obvious that Bernice has discipline in abundance when one sees the amount of work that she has put into her career as an author.

The group secretary reported that the bowls evening at Great Budworth was a great success with Christine Bennett being the overall winner.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 28 which will be the Produce Show. Further details from Wenda Jones on 01606 331121.
