CHAIRMAN Heather Casson told members about a recent holiday, visiting five cathedral cities including Lichfield and the National Arboretum, which impressed her so much that she hopes to arrange a day trip for the club next year.

The afternoon's speaker was Kay Bashford with her "History of Hats". She had a wonderful collection of thirteen of the series of fourteen quarter-size hats made by Pipkin and Bonnet, all presented in beautiful boxes.

Covering the period from 1784 to 1910, her talk was a history of fashion and she spoke of the influence on fashion of historical events like the first hot-air balloon trip, the battle of Waterloo and individual characters. Kay was thanked by Sheila Howell and roundly applauded.

Visitors are always welcome at meetings and on November 12 the speaker will be Brian Hallworth with "In the Bleak Midwinter."
