GUESTS from several local WIs were welcomed to the Over Peover garden meeting where they were delighted by oriental belly dancer Fatima.

She explained the origins of belly dancing with amazingly animated facial expressions.

Her energetic and accomplished dancing was eclipsed only by her wonderful turn of phrase, which was part Liverpudlian, part Ancient Egyptian.

Members were inveigled into joining in as various costumed characters in Fatima's oriental “cabaret”. It was huge fun and very entertaining.

Members were applauded for their success in the Cheshire Show: a second place for a floral arrange-ment for Angela Eccles; a third for jewellery making for Rosalind Jackson and four other commendations.

Good results for a small WI. The winners were congratulated as they enjoyed their wonderful supper provided by the catering committee.

Arrangements were finalised for a number of exciting trips and a summer meal.

Speakers for the evening were Peter and Simon Rose with a talk entitled "Otzi the Iceman". A chance visit to the Bolzano museum during a family holiday near Lake Garda led to a passionate interest in an ancient body found on the Italian/Austrian border in September 1991.

He was about 45 when he died and had been preserved by the dry air, then snow and ice for about 5,200 years.

Otzi had so much equipment and personal items on and around him that have told historians so much about him and the life he led. Controversy still rages about his cause of death.

Members were still mesmerised as they tucked into the fabulous meringues and cakes provided by Jean Irlam and Margaret Nightingale.

Meetings are at 7:30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall.
