PAM Lamb, president, welcomed 54 members and one visitor to the August meeting of Hartford WI.

A letter was received, following last month’s talk, from North West Air Ambulance Service thanking them for their donation which will help with the third helicopter going into service.

Thank you to Mavis Green for her garden party which raised the grand total of £446 in aid of funds. A wonderful afternoon was had by all who attended.

The Literary Award was presented to Judie Mitchell for her poem "Four Seasons", which she read out to members.

The speaker for the evening was Jean Finney with her talk entitled "Origins of Nursery Rhymes". Jean is a singer, songwriter and artist, a very talented lady.

She played her guitar and sang one of her own songs, which everyone related to as it was about "senior moments".

She gave an interesting history lesson on nursery rhymes dating back to the 15th century and encouraged the audience to guess which rhyme was being spoken about.

She ended the evening with another of her amusing songs.

There is a Bank Holiday Monday car boot sale on August 25 at Moss Farm.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, September 4, with speaker, Irene Cunliffe on "What did you do in the war, mum?"

Visitors are always welcome. Please contact 01606 75520 for further information.
