A FEW months ago the speakers, doll’s hospital owners, Paul and Gloria Steggel, inspired member, Jane Evans, to take her old ceramic doll, which was just a jumble of pieces and have it restored.
The job is now complete and Jane brought her doll to the recent meeting at Acton Bridge WI. With a new wig, eyelashes, joints and clothes, the doll has been transformed to its original beauty.
The guest speaker for the meeting was blue badge guide, Stephen Shakeshaft. He was born in Chester and is a mine of information on its history. With the help of slides he gave a fascinating talk.
Chester is the largest fortress in Roman Britain, it has the oldest shop front on the “rows” now referred as the “arches”. The Victorian clock tower is the second most photographed clock in Britain after the Westminster tower clock. Stephen was thanked by Pat Coates. The raffle was won by Valerie Mitchell.
Members are looking forward to their August outing to Llanfair pg and Plas Newydd.
