A PLEASANT outdoor activity, in the form of a garden party, took place at the home of Lach Dennis WI’s President Joy Hoad. Members provided a varied selection of delicious food and drinks including sausages, pies and sandwiches with a strawberry pavlova and a Victoria sandwich cake to round-off the meal. The evening owed much of its success to the benevolent weather.
The business of the evening continued indoors and included a report of the AGM which took place in Leeds in June. The evening concluded with a generously supported raffle: 1. Vera Hardman; 2. Jean Burrows; 3. Glenys Bowers.
Gordon and Angela Atkinson were the guest speakers at the June meeting. They talked and showed slides about their charity, The Mango Tree which supports the development of the Kambe Timboni School in Kenya. Through education it offers children an opportunity to escape ongoing poverty.
The next meeting is on Monday, August 11, at the Woodpecker Hotel, Leftwich at 6.15pm.
