VALE Royal Lions plan to mark their 40th anniversary with even more service to the local community. They donated around £23,000 locally last year and recognise that will be difficult to surpass.

There are no limits to their service work, much of it focuses on health issues and youth support. They understand the needs of those with disabilities and contribute directly to individuals or facilities provided for them.

Youths have been encouraged through development activities and special attention has been given to the young carers in the area. They also enjoy many social events throughout the year. They recently enjoyed a darts evening with pub food and are looking forward to a bowls afternoon with lunch.

A recent 50s/60s night raised around £600 to boost their funds. The traditional Handover dinner took place recently, it is a great social occasion to relax, reflect on the achievements of the last twelve months and prepare for the forthcoming year. Members are volunteers who primarily provide a service to the local community.

As part of Lions Clubs International, there are opportunities to be involved with communities around the world.

They meet twice each month, membership is a commitment to give time to help others and generates a sense of achievement for a group of like-minded people who become friends and enjoy an active social calendar.

They would like to hear from anyone thinking of joining, please call 0845 833 8496 for details.
