THE June meeting at Weaverham WI provided a follow up to last year’s “Love food, Hate waste” presentation. The amount of food thrown away nationally has decreased but still reaches devastating amounts.

Supermarkets must take the blame for their insistence on the “pleasing to the eye” procedure.

Households can save waste and money by planning menu’s, buying in season and being aware that the use-by date is the one to be heeded.

There was a lively discussion and members swapped recipes for leftovers and tips for economy.

Forthcoming events include the group outing to Chatsworth House; a car boot sale on Lakehouse Field on August 10; an afternoon tea and craft day in September and Christmas lunch at the Riverside Inn.

Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.15pm in 1st Weaverham Sea Scout Hall, Well Lane, Weaverham and visitors are always welcome.
