MEMBERS were welcomed to Bostock and District WI’s birthday party meeting by president Ruth Cairns.

Diary dates include: coffee morning on June 10 at Viva in Northwich; rain notwithstanding, the walking group will meet at the Bull’s Head on June 11 for a ramble. Plans for the group outing to Chatsworth on June 25 have been finalised. The coach pick-up point is the old Memorial Hall site at 9am.

The date of the annual lunch at the Plough in Whitegate is yet to be confirmed but is likely to be around the second Wednesday in July.

Margaret Webb is in the process of organizing the garden meeting in August and there is a coach ride to Shrewsbury including a canal trip.

Feedback on the recent Kurling escapades was good. Ruth introduced Gay Rhodes the speaker for the meeting with her talk “A Certain Age”.

Gay was extremely funny; virtually everything she said about women of a “certain age” struck a chord and made her observations even funnier. Anecdotes included some of the talks she had given.

She shared her experiences about driving and getting lost, retaining youth using face cream, how to wave in a youthful fashion and attaining a flat stomach.

One of her tips on clothes: never wear a black dress with white collar and cuffs as you may be mistaken for a waitress, as she was. She gave advice that, if you need to bend down to pick something up, do something else while you’re down there to make the effort worthwhile!

Jenny Hull gave the vote of thanks for a hugely entertaining talk.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, June 24 with speaker Harry Watson from the North West Air Ambulance service. New members and visitors welcome.
