MEMBERS of Weaverham and District Gardening club had the first of their summer garden visits to Abbeywood gardens in Delamere recently and it turned out to be a very popular choice with all the members who attended.

For many it was their first visit but probably not their last.

Abbeywood is certainly a very beautiful garden still in the process of being developed and planted; prairie planting beds are being developed this year.

As well as wonderful plants and plant combinations the views over the Cheshire countryside are beautiful.

Describing Abbeywood as a “garden” is an under-statement; the gardens extend to approximately 4.5 acres of the 45 acre estate which include mature woodland; a recently planted arboretum; walled exotic garden aswell as herbaceous borders; a parterre with a large pond and much more.

Members were able to spend as much time as they wanted in various parts of the garden and helpful gardening staff were happy to interrupt their work to answer questions such as “what is that plant called” and “how do you spell that?”

The end of a most enjoyable visit was of course to the café. What kind of garden visit is it without tea and cake? The icing on that cake was that it didn’t rain!

The next meeting is on Wednesday, June 25 with a visit to a member’s garden. New members and visitors are always welcome.
