THE dreams of a young dancer from Greenbank have come true after being selected to dance with the English Youth Ballet (EYB) for a fifth time.

Phoebe Waterhouse, aged 10, was selected to perform with the professional ballet company after auditioning for a part in Coppelia.

She was selected from more than 200 young hopefuls to take part in three performances at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre in November.

The ballet follows the story of the dreamy Franz who comically falls in love with a beautiful life-like doll – Coppelia.

The Lostock Gralam C of E Primary school student will dance alongside EYB’s international principal artists, who will play the lead roles in the production, and experience the life of a professional ballet dancer, working at Greenbank High School in a 10-day intensive rehearsal process.

Phoebe, who is trained at Dancing 4 Fun, a dance studio owned and run by her mum, Sandra, said: “I started dancing at the age of two – I like all the bouncy steps in ballet.

“I’m playing the part of a villager in Coppelia.

“When I’m performing I love the bit at the end when everyone claps – I’d love to be a ballet teacher like mum when I grow up.”

Phoebe’s mum, Sandra, who also works at Lostock Tiny Tots, said: “This will be Phoebe’s fifth time of dancing with the EYB.

“She loves dancing and works hard at it. She’s never felt nervous doing the auditions but she’s generally a really quiet child. She loves all the travelling that comes with performing – she’s already asking about when the next audition is.

“I think it helps that I’m her ballet teacher. She’s been dancing since she could work, she took her first solo on stage when she was only four-years-old!”

“Phoebe, along with half a dozen of my other students will be auditioning for a part in Swan Lake with the EYB next month.”

Phoebe will be performing in Coppelia at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Friday, November 9 at 7.30pm, Saturday, November 10 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
