Scarecrow trail returns this weekend

MORE than 30 straw characters will take their place along the A49 and around Blakemere Craft Centre as the annual Scarecrow Trail comes to Northwich.

Blakemere and other members of the Destination 49 group will be displaying their scarecrow creations from October 20 to October 31, in what is hoped to be the biggest trail yet.

The trail will wind around the Craft Centre, with scarecrows from 24 of the site’s businesses, as well as a giant Cheshire cat and Alice in Wonderland.

It will continue along the A49 into Tarporley, stopping at Nunsmere Hall Hotel, The Hollies Farm Shop, Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre, The Swan, and the Old Fire Station Chocolate Shop on Tarporley high street.

Blakemere manager Ginny Brooks-White said: “This year’s trail is our biggest yet and offers a really fun day out for families.

“The attractions always go to town on the trail and this year is no different. Everyone has been working hard on their scarecrows and we will see some wonderful original creations.”

Visitors can pick up a trail form for £1 and then follow the trail, filling in the name of each scarecrow as they find them.

They will then be asked to solve an anagram before submitting the details online at www.destination49.co.uk to be entered into a draw with the chance to win one of 31 fantastic prizes.

They can also vote for their favourite scarecrow from the whole trail.

Prizes up for grabs include 12-month family membership for Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre, afternoon tea for two at Hetty’s Cafe Bar, Sunday lunch for four at Nunsmere Hall, bed and breakfast for two at The Swan in Tarporley, a VIP visit to Santa’s Grotto at Blakemere including breakfast in The Saddlers Kitchen, a Junior Owl Experience Voucher from Cheshire Falconry and many more.
