A FLOOD alert is in place for the River Weaver catchment area, including Northwich.

The River Dane, which flows into the Weaver near the Bull Ring, currently has no warnings from the Environment Agency but its levels are noticeably high.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has already been called out to a number of incidents related to flooding, including those in Weaverham and Crowton.

So in future when some idiot says Britain is threatened by a drought I do hope they are told to shut up. Britain may occasionally have a minor water shortage but we will NEVER have a drought, it ALWAYS, I repeat ALWAYS rains a lot on this Island.

It might give those stinky drains in Witton St/High St a good flush! History shows this area is prone to flooding. I've just been reading about the 1946 'Great Flood' and an interesting point, quite relevant at the moment. I quote "Suddenly a man from Moore & Brock's came panting in to tell Mr Platt that the water had overflowed Baron's Quay and was advancing up the yard there".

Should hope that the developers of Baron's Quay shopping/cinema centre have done a decent flood assessment!

I assume that many of the thousands of extra shoppers predicted by the developers would be so desperate to spend their money in the new riverside ASDA that they would be prepared to swim or take a boat to the store. It is not as if there would be any other food supermarkets in the town where they could buy their groceries.
