SUPERHEROES, horror characters and much-loved TV icons will descend on Sandiway this weekend as the UK's biggest garage model kit event comes to town.
The UK Garage Kit (UKGK) Expo, held at Blakemere Craft Centre on Saturday, September 29, will showcase collectable model kits, character figures and life size models of some of cinema’s favourite characters.
Visitors and suppliers will be travelling the length of the country from Glasgow to the South East and from as far as America and Spain.
The Expo has been organised by Creature Features based at Blakemere, which specialises in movie memorabilia and collectables, including a vast range of make-at-home models, known as garage kits, and resin character figures.
“It’s a very specialised interest enjoyed by movie fans and kit collectors, but it’s becoming more mainstream,” said David Nicholson, from Creature Features.
With more than 20 stalls displaying models, kits, equipment and paints, the event is said to be a real treat for enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike, with t-shirts and move memorabilia also available.
“This event is in its third year and it is getting bigger,” said David, who runs the business with his partner Rachel Hunt.
“It’s our first time holding it at Blakemere and we’re hoping that as well as fans of garage kits, local people will come and see what it is all about.”
Sculptors from Creature Features will also be demonstrating their techniques for creating character busts.
There will also be a competition for the best kit, best model and best of show.
Creature Features supplies kits, resin busts and figures of characters including Batman, Only Fools and Horses, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Terminator, Frankenstein and Star Wars.
David also designs and produces his own models to order, from small to life size, while Rachel produces artwork of iconic films, characters and TV series.
The UKGK Expo will be held from 10am to 4pm at the Actors Studio at Blakemere Craft Centre, with free admission.
