Hartford High's Olympic summer

PUPILS are reflecting on an Olympic summer at Hartford High School.

The school was selected by LOCOG to take a group of students to showcase International Inspiration in the Great British Garden.

The lucky eight were Lucy Yarwood, Isobel Dodd, Charlotte Clark, Amy Neild, Peter Lee, George Notman, Cameron Cooper and Joe Terry.

They spent five days working in the Great British Garden in the Olympic Park, organising a range of activities including face painting, skipping, games and relay races which they led with children and adults who were visiting the garden.

The most popular activity was leaving of messages of support for the athletes on a willow sculpture, all done with the roar of the crowd from the Olympic Stadium in the background.

LOCOG presented the group with tickets for the semi-final of the womens’ handball competition and the pupils also travelled into London to watch the triathlon live in Hyde Park.

Teacher Julie Harries said: “The students had many opportunities to meet the Olympic athletes and there was a lively competition between the boys and girls as to who could get the most athletes’ photographs with the group.

“The group experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity and it was a privilege to be part of the Great British summer of sport.”
