Music night at the museum

A TRADITIONAL music evening will be held at Weaver Hall Museum as its latest exhibition ‘Music in Cheshire’ draws to a close.

Some of the county’s musicians will be giving acoustic performances in a range of styles in the museum’s atmospheric Board of Guardians room where the pauper inmates of the workhouse once enjoyed rare musical treats.

John and Ailsa Booth, longstanding supporters of Northwich Folk Club, will present some of their own songs mainly with guitar, but also with the ethereal sound of the bowed psaltery.

Dave Ball will play traditional tunes on melodeon and concertina.

Greg Oldfield will bring songs of industry and community and there will also be a set by Corvus – a Cheshire based duo who mix contemporary and traditional styles using instruments from across the world.

Tom Hughes, the museum’s education officer, will also showcase some medieval instruments that would have been heard in Cheshire.

The event will be held on Wednesday, September 12.

Doors open at 7pm and the music begins at 7.30pm.

Admission is free for this event including a chance to see the whole museum during the evening.
