Lions give out £12,000

A CLUB from Northwich raised more than £12,000 for charity in a year.

Vale Royal Lions Club has given thousands of pounds to good causes in the Northwich area in the past 12 months, including individual appeals for help to established charities like Vale Royal Multiple Sclerosis Society and Mid Cheshire Samaritans.

It has also supported the Youth Brass Band, the NeuroMuscular Centre's door sticker initiative and the Lions annual toy appeal.

At the end of the year, the club still had sufficient funds to distribute £6,250 in donations to 15 local charities during July and August.

Funds are raised by the 24 volunteers who make up the Vale Royal Lions Club and organise a variety of events during the year.

As well as working diligently to support local charities, a varied social calendar ensures it is not all work and no play.

Members of Vale Royal Lions Club range from new members who joined this year to long serving members, including three who have received long service awards.

Since its formation more than 35 years ago, Vale Royal Lions Club has donated more than £350,000 to charities within the community.

It continually seeks new members and anyone interested would be welcome to attend a club meeting, which take place at The Blue Cap, in Sandiway, on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Anyone wishing to attend should call Charles Cahill, club president, on 01606 851385.
